LOS ANGELES : Rape Victim Sues USC Over Loss of Her Job

Share

A rape victim who won a $1.8-million jury award after suing USC’s security department for negligence in a 1989 on-campus attack has filed a second lawsuit in Superior Court alleging that top USC officials had her fired from her nursing job in retaliation for the first lawsuit.

The suit alleges that the woman was fired from her medical job three days before the jury in her civil case returned its verdict. The firing was part of a reorganization and other employees were also fired, but they were all rehired except for the woman, according to the suit.

Mireille Gotsis, an attorney for USC, said the woman was offered a new job, “however, she never showed up for work.” The university is appealing the first case.
