LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Pipe Bomb Explodes at House; 2 Others Found
An early morning pipe bomb explosion in Rosemead, the discovery of two pipe bombs in Carson and a 10-inch plastic pipe lying in a Glendale street kept sheriff’s explosive investigators busy Tuesday.
The explosion occurred at 12:37 a.m. at 2706 Earle Ave. in Rosemead. Windows were shattered at the house after a fire extinguisher rigged with black powder and a wick exploded next to the front porch.
At 9:50 a.m., two men were arrested in Carson after sheriff’s deputies found a five-inch galvanized pipe bomb, a five-inch brass tube bomb, a 16-ounce can of explosive power and brass tubing in the back of a camper truck. The truck, parked at Harbor View Avenue and Washington Street, belonged to Arlen McWain, 39, of Carson. McWain and another man, Buster Walker, 28, also of Carson, were arrested. The pair have not been linked to the Rosemead blast, sheriff’s deputies said.
Meanwhile, the 10 a.m. discovery in Glendale of what appeared to be a third pipe bomb was quickly discounted by sheriff’s investigators who determined that the plastic plumbing pipe lying in the gutter at 5016 Boston St. was empty.
