Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The U.S. Supreme Court barred states from taxing military retirement pay if they exempt the pensions of their own retired state and local government workers. At issue was a Kansas income tax provision that has collected $91 million from about 14,000 veterans in the state. The ruling appears to invalidate similar tax provisions in numerous other states. Left unanswered was whether states will have to refund such tax revenue to the veterans.
