Diver Williams Retires Because of Neck Injury
Olympic platform diver Wendy Williams, attempting a comeback for the Barcelona Olympics, has retired at 24 because of a neck injury.
Neck pain forced her to withdraw during last week’s national championships at Ann Arbor, Mich. Williams, bronze medalist in the 1988 Games at Seoul, underwent tests by doctors in Denver, and the neck injury was discovered. Williams said she believes there was a risk of paralysis if she continued to dive.
