Wang Laboratories Inc. said it posted a fiscal third-quarter loss of $6.3 million as it awaited greater revenue from its new arrangement to sell International Business Machines Corp. computers.

The loss, equal to 4 cents a share, compared to a loss of $48.9 million, or 30 cents a share, for the same three-month period last year.

Revenue totaled $460.8 million for the quarter, which ended March 31 and was the third quarter of the company’s fiscal year. That was down from $492.1 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

“We are continuing to experience difficult and uncertain economic and industry conditions, which are exerting intense pressure on revenues and margins,” said Richard W. Miller, chairman of the Lowell, Mass.-based company.

Miller said Wang began shipping IBM computers in low volume during the quarter and expects revenue from them will steadily increase.
