Toyota Plans to Cut Auto Production: Toyota Motor Corp., Japan’s biggest auto maker, said declining sales have forced it to cut production at one of its 12 domestic plants. Toyota, which along with other Japanese auto makers has been hurt by weak domestic and foreign economies, said it will change one of four assembly lines at its Tahara plant in central Japan to a one-shift operation from two shifts. Workers on the affected shift will move to other assignments when the change occurs May 6, Junichi Kawamura of Toyota said. Motor vehicle sales in Japan fell by 3.9% in 1991.
