Today: Ventura County Democrats elect delegates to the National Democratic Convention in New York at Democratic caucuses beginning at 3 p.m. In the 23rd Congressional District, which encompasses all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks, supporters of Bill Clinton will meet at the Communication Workers of America hall, 399 Aviador St., Camarillo. Supporters of Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr. will meet at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hall, 3994 E. Main St., Ventura. Democrats who live in the 24th Congressional District, which includes Thousand Oaks and portions of Los Angeles County, meet at different locations. Clinton supporters will hold a caucus at Taft High School, 5607 Capistrano Ave., Woodland Hills. Brown supporters will meet at the Inn of the Seventh Ray restaurant, 128 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Topanga. Caucus organizers say the doors open at 2:30 and everyone must be inside before they close at 3 p.m.

Today: Oxnard Councilman Manuel Lopez and his wife, Irma, host a fund-raiser for “Voters Against Bailard,” a citizens group that opposes extending the operating permits for Bailard Landfill near Oxnard. The fund-raiser will be held at 1911 Cascades Court in Oxnard from 1 to 4 p.m. Donation is $10. For more information, call Patrick Forrest, 985-2878.

Today: Republican Assembly candidate Jon Williams is holding a fund-raising dinner in Oxnard with retired Gen. William C. Westmoreland as the keynote speaker. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Radisson Suites Hotel. Williams is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District, which encompasses Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Cost is $125 per person. In addition, Williams is hosting an open house at his campaign headquarters for Korean and Vietnam War veterans who wish to meet Westmoreland. Tuesday: Congressional candidate Dr. Robert Shakman of Ventura will address the Republican Women of Simi Valley at the Simi Valley Public Library at 7 p.m. Shakman is a Republican candidate in the 23rd Congressional District, which encompasses all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks.

Wednesday: U.S. Senate candidate Sonny Bono, the former singer who is now the Republican mayor of Palm Springs, will hold a luncheon at the Radisson Hotel, 2101 W. Vineyard Ave., Oxnard. A social gathering begins at 11 a.m. with lunch served at noon. Bono will speak after lunch. Cost is $20 per person. For reservations or information, call Dee Hartsough at 525-1045.

Thursday: Democrats United, a political action committee, will present a “mock presidential convention” at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hall, 3994 E. Main St., Ventura, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The convention, designed to help educate the public about Democratic politics, will include mock presidential and senatorial debates, with Democratic congressional candidates Kevin Sweeney and Anita Perez Ferguson participating.
