Education: Bachelor’s from Waseda University, 1968; master’s and doctorate work from Tokyo University 1971 to 1973.
Corporate life: Began working for Toshiba Corp. in Tokyo in a management position in 1973 after graduation; held several senior management positions until 1984.
1984-1988, promoted to general manager of personal computer business for Toshiba Europe in Neuss, Germany. He launched Toshiba’s laptop computers into the European market in 1985.
1988-1991, promoted to senior manager of the international personal computerbusiness for Toshiba Corp., Tokyo.
October, 1991, to April, 1992, selected as assistant to the general manager of Toshiba’s International Operation-Personal Computers, while continuing his role as senior manager.
April 27, appointed president of Toshiba’s U.S. operations, focusing on business and office automation products; also will assume role as executive vice president for the computer systems group, focusing on computer peripheral and laptop manufacturing and marketing.
