UPI Seeks Auction Date: United Press International has asked a federal bankruptcy judge in New York to schedule an auction sale of the 84-year-old news service. It said U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Francis Conrad is considering its request for an “accelerated” auction. “This will determine, once and for all, who will own UPI,” President Pieter VanBennekom said. UPI filed for bankruptcy protection in August, 1991, for the second time in six years.
