San Dimas : Home Addition Blocked

Share

A Los Angeles County judge has refused to force city officials to allow a couple to complete an addition to their $475,000 home.

Ronald Liskanich and Gloria Stevens bought the hillside home two years ago. After construction was almost completed on a new bedroom, bath and game room, the city issued a stop-work order after a neighbor complained that the addition was too close to his property.

Last September, the married couple filed suit alleging that because the city had issued a permit, they should be allowed to finish the project. On April 10, Superior Court Judge Stephen E. O’Neil refused to order the variance.

City Manager Robert L. Poff said the couple will have to tear down the rooms. He said they have the option of rebuilding on the opposite side, or in the rear of the property on Calle Cristina.

Stevens and Liskanich could not be reached. Their lawyer, Barry Brandt, said they have filed a claim against the city for unspecified damages.
