Children’s Hospital of Orange County will move ahead with plans to construct three building additions and a parking lot after approval by the Orange City Council this week.

The hospital completed construction of a 202-bed facility on Pepper Street near La Veta Avenue in November, 1991.

The latest proposal will add five stories above the entrance lobby of the new building to allow additional surgical facilities as well as waiting rooms, restrooms and showers for parents who stay at the hospital with their children.

The plan will also include an outdoor patio at the hospital’s medical office building, on the northeast corner of La Veta and Main Street, a meeting and multipurpose room and an additional floor to the hospital’s five-story research building at Main Street and Providence Avenue.

A temporary 231-space parking lot will be developed on 3.5 acres on the east side of Main Street, south of La Veta Avenue.

The construction required a conditional use permit from the Orange City Council. The council approved the permit on Tuesday.
