Santa Monica : Sound Wall to Be Built

Share

Relief for airport neighbors--and their eardrums--is coming in the form of a $116,000 noise abatement wall.

The City Council on Tuesday night voted to direct the Excel Paving Co. to build the wall at the east end of the runway to deflect aircraft noise.

The contract also directs Excel to construct an aircraft wash rack with a water clarifier to capture waste water, in accordance with state and federal water discharge regulations. The rack adds $57,760 to the contract, for a total of $173,920.

Both capital projects were approved by the council during the 1989-90 fiscal year.

The noise wall is eligible for 90% reimbursement from the Federal Aviation Administration.
