Pop Album Chart : The Cure Wishes to Be No. 1

In terms of sales, no one seems to be able to touch Def Leppard’s “Adrenalize,” which has been No. 1 on the Billboard pop album chart since it debuted four weeks ago. But the Cure’s “Wish,” which entered the chart at No. 2, may be the heir apparent to the pop throne. Two other albums made splashy chart entrances: Slaughter’s pop-metal “Wild Life” (No. 8) and the rapping Beastie Boys’ “Check Your Head” (No. 10). After an early flurry, sales of the Bruce Springsteen albums have slowed significantly. “Human Touch” slipped from No. 3 to No. 12 and “Lucky Town” dropped from No. 11 to No. 23.
* Country star Strait’s “Holding My Own” debuted at No. 43. Some insiders are predicting that this will be his biggest album and make him a mainstream star.
