BURNING PROPHET: Laguna Art Museum officials had not anticipated a Los Angeles on fire when they set up an exhibit, to open May 8, built around Peter Alexander’s painting, “Century,” which depicts L.A. in flames. . . . “The Indians said L.A. would be destroyed, either by earthquake or fire,” says Alexander. It’s been a theme of his work since he did drawings of fires in Los Angeles for the 1975 movie, “Day of the Locust.” Alexander calls the riots tragic but enthralling: “I’m glued to the TV.”
