GM Dropping Two Models: General Motors’ Oldsmobile division said it will drop the Oldsmobile Toronado and the Custom Cruiser wagon by the end of the year. “Sales volume has been declining on those cars for the past several years,” Oldsmobile spokesman Gus Buenz said. Toronado’s best year was 1972, when Oldsmobile sold 50,000. But Buenz said this year it expects to sell only 4,000 of the cars. Sales of the Custom Cruiser station wagon have been hurt by the surge in minivan and sports utility vehicle sales. “We estimated that when the full-sized wagons were redone in 1990, the segment was around 100,000,” said Buenz. GM now estimates the full-size wagon market at around 40,000.
