Pasadena : ‘Secrets of Our Universe’

A free seminar on “Unlocking the Secrets of Our Universe” will be held at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Charles A. Beichman, director of the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at Caltech, will give an overview of “America’s Great Observatories: NASA’s Eyes on the Universe.”

John Trauger of JPL will explain, in laymen’s terms, the capabilities of the Hubble Space Telescope and what scientists are learning from it.

Other programs to be discussed include the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, which opened April 5, 1991, and the first spacecraft to bear a complement of large, sophisticated instruments dedicated to studying a broad range of gamma ray energies.
