Regarding the article “City Council Gives Housing Chief the Ax” (March 24): To date, much has been written about the displeasure some members of the City Council have expressed about Evan Becker’s job performance.
For the record, a petition signed by 170 employees in May, 1991, when the issue of Evan Becker’s contract extension was first considered by the City Council, states the enormous respect Housing Commission employees have for Evan Becker. Excerpt: “Evan has provided exceptional leadership and demonstrated integrity, character and devotion to an unyielding pursuit of low-income housing. Evan’s sincere advocacy for low-income housing has earned community respect and instilled pride within the agency.”
