Wilson Names West Director of State Real Estate Appraisers

Robert J. West, a veteran Southland appraiser, has been appointed director of the state Office of Real Estate Appraisers by Gov. Pete Wilson.

West, 52, previously worked as assistant vice president of appraisal review for the Bank of California in Newport Beach. He has also worked for several real estate and appraisal companies and has served as a director for the nonprofit Irvine Housing Opportunities since 1989.

West holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s in economics from Stanford University. He has taught appraisal courses at USC and Orange Coast Community College.

West has already begun the $78,252-a-year job and is expected to be confirmed by the Senate later this year.

The Office of Real Estate Appraisers regulates appraisers in the state and is responsible for administering a new program that requires all appraisers to be licensed.
