OZONE DEPLETION

Alan Weisman’s “Naked Planet” (April 5) was informative and penetrating and for once treated the issue of ozone destruction as more than an exercise in scientific speculation. However, he has only scratched the surface of the negligent and irresponsible behavior of the chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) producers in sacrificing environmental integrity and the public’s health for the sake of profit. A follow-up discussing the increasing CFC production in the face of scientific evidence supporting elimination would be a story the public deserves to know about.
