Violence Imprisons Her Innocent Kids

Share

Robin Abcarian’s column “What a Grim Outlook for City Where Bullets Rain,” (April 14) really touched me. As a person in my 30s, I remember clearly the time described in that article, a time when kids could go to the liquor store and buy candy without worries.

I struggle with my teen-age daughter frequently. She wants to go to her high school football games; I won’t let her. It’s not safe. I don’t think I missed any of my high school football games. But then, I used to walk home from school, too. I won’t let my kids do that.

We’re toying with the idea of moving away, maybe to another state. I’m not sure that’s the answer. We have a lot of great friends and family here. I like my house. My neighborhood’s OK. I’d like to stand my ground and fight.

But, as Robin pointed out and Denise’s dad reiterated, kids are being killed “in the presence of their parents.” We all love our kids. What are we going to do?
