Terrified by Idea of Violent Label

I was terrified to read of the plan to identify children as being violent or potentially violent at such a young age (“A Cure for Violence?” April 24). As someone who has worked extensively in inner-city schools in both Los Angeles and New York, I can tell you that these children already have been labeled as violent.

To be from the inner city is already to be labeled as “potentially violent” by many teachers, administrators, the media, police and society at large.
