New FileNet Products: Another Orange County company, FileNet Corp., also introduced a raft of products on Monday. The maker of computerized document processing systems in Costa Mesa unveiled a new line of IBM RISC-based file servers.

A file server acts as a central hub for a network of personal computers.

The new products were developed over a two-year period at a cost in the tens of millions of dollars, said Ted Smith, chief executive. FileNet’s earlier generation of file servers runs on either proprietary workstations or IBM-standard personal computers.

The file servers, dubbed IBM RISC because they are based on IBM’s version of the reduced set instruction computing standard for high-speed workstations, will serve as the heart of the system that FileNet has designed for managing flow of office paperwork.

Now, with the IBM RISC models, FileNet will be able to sell its computers to large corporations that want all of their equipment to be compatible, Smith said.
