U.S., Japanese Auto Executives to Meet: Top executives from U.S. and Japanese auto firms plan to meet in Chicago on May 18 to continue the talks begun in Tokyo last January, the industries’ respective trade associations announced. The meeting--which U.S. executives originally hoped to hold in February or March--was postponed in the midst of the heightened trade tensions and a budding “Buy American” campaign after President Bush’s January trip to Japan with U.S. business leaders. The chief executives of General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi are scheduled to attend.
