LAPD’s Response to the Riot

Share

As I watched the events unfold in graphic detail on my television screen, sadness, helplessness and rage are but a few of the emotions I experienced at the tragic loss of human life and senseless destruction.

One scene, however, filled me with enormous pride. That of the LAPD officers, in riot gear, standing in front of Parker Center--restrained and professional--while being pelted and insulted by an angry mob (April 29)!

I am proud to work with many of these men and women and hope that at least this vivid image encapsulates and will convey to the public some measure of the adverse conditions which confront these officers on a daily basis.
