LAPD’s Response to the Riot

For years, elected officials have tried to find just how much law enforcement they could get from the LAPD with how little funding. Their answer is now painfully clear: a grossly undermanned police force with a siege mentality that needs to rely on state and federal bailing out in the event of trouble.

Chief-designate Willie Williams’ vision of “community-based” policing is a good idea. It is also manpower intensive. The people of Los Angeles need to wake up and realize that peace and order are not cheap.
