MOORPARK : College to Welcome Older Students

Share

Adults planning to enroll at Moorpark College will have the opportunity to meet other older students and prepare for course registration at a special orientation session Tuesday at the college.

The free four-hour program will be open to all people who have been out of high school or college for at least seven years, said counselor Donna Allyn.

The college tries to run the program once each semester.

A goal of the program is to “create a network of students so they don’t feel so alone,” Allyn said.

During the session, the prospective students will be given tests to determine their skills in math, English and reading, she said.

The tests will not be graded but will be used only to place students in the appropriate levels of classes, Allyn said.

“It’s not a pass-fail situation,” she said.

College counselors also will explain how to register for courses, planning schedules and using the school’s various support services.

The ages of students who enroll at Moorpark College after a break in their education ranges from 25 to 60, Allyn said.
