BREA : Sixth-Graders’ Art on Display at Hotel

Share

Artwork from a sixth-grade class at Arovista Elementary School will be placed on permanent display at the Brea Embassy Suites Hotel.

Under the guidance of teacher Laurie Brown, the students made papier-mache mummies earlier this year while studying the history of ancient Egypt. Brown arranged to have the children’s work placed on temporary display at the Embassy Suites because of the hotel’s ancient-Egyptian decor, hotel officials said.

However, hotel executives decided to give the children a merit award and keep the artwork on permanent display, said Lynda Cook, a spokeswoman for Lowe Development Corp., which runs the hotel.

“We wanted to acknowledge their enthusiasm for the project and reward the teacher’s effort for connecting their studies in school with their community,” Cook said. “We are happy to display their work.”
