SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS : Mulholland Drive Plan Gets Final OK
Under the watchful eyes of dozens of homeowner leaders, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday quietly gave final approval to a plan to protect the Mulholland Drive corridor from over-development.
First proposed 19 years ago, the plan seeks to minimize grading of properties alongside the roadway, maintain the “slow-speed” rustic character of Mulholland Drive and prevent development from blocking panoramic views from the street.
The plan, tentatively approved last week, protects an area that extends up to a half-mile on each side of Mulholland Drive, as it runs 22 miles from the Hollywood Freeway on the east to the Los Angeles County line on the west.
The council adopted the plan without debate or dissent.
