Sleaze Specialist Dorien Wilson No Longer Needs to Dream On

Need an actor to play a sleaze to perfection?

Meet Dorien Wilson.

Fans of HBO’s ribald comedy series “Dream On,” which begins its third season June 6, know Wilson as Martin Tupper’s (Brian Benben) best friend--the womanizing talk-show host Eddie Charles, who seems to have a new girlfriend on his arm every night. Wilson is playing another sleazoid in Rod Parker’s comedy “One of Those Days,” opening Sunday at the Matrix Theatre.

“I play a Hollywood producer--which kind of says it all,” Wilson explains. “It’s about a guy (who in one day) gets shot and his wife leaves him. He’s a writer on a TV show and I fire him. I have a small but really funny part.”

So did he get “One of Those Days” because of his very believable turn as Eddie?

“Kind of sort of a little bit,” Wilson admits. “Eddie fits this guy. (The play’s producers) love the show and they called and asked if I would do the role. I said, ‘Sure. No problem.’ ”

Wilson says he’s vastly different from the characters he’s been playing: “They are nothing like Dorien. I have a wife and a kid. I really do. I live in the Valley.”

Believe it or not, Wilson says, wedding bells are going to chime for Eddie this season on “Dream On.”

“We will see how long he stays married,” Wilson muses, adding that at his bachelor party Eddie has “a little indiscretion with a hooker.”

A graduate of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, Wilson grew up “all over. My father was in the Air Force. We did a lot of traveling.” Wilson called San Francisco home for eight years, where he “hit the circuit there doing theater.”

Wilson moved here two years ago because he wanted to do more television and features. “I kept flying out here for different parts and it got to be expensive. So it was cheaper to move here. It definitely worked out.”
