INS Should Make Background Checks
Re “The Spy Who Can’t Go Home Again” (May 4): How could the United States government permit a convicted felon like Nikolai Ogorodnikov into this country? This guy served 10 years for burglary and managed to evade a rape charge. Doesn’t anyone in the Immigration and Naturalization Service do background checks on these people? How many more Ogorodnikovs are in this country?
As far as sending him back to his country, of course his country exists. It is still Russia.
Russia has offered to take him back so this should put an end to this non-problem.
