Leon S. Klatzkin; Wrote Scores for Popular TV Shows, Films

Leon S. Klatzkin, 77, Hollywood composer and arranger who penned the “Gilligan’s Island” and original “Superman” themes and the score for the film “Around the World in 80 Days.” While attending high school in Los Angeles, Klatzkin started his own band and by graduation was chosen first chair trumpet in the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. As a composer for movies and television, he worked for producer Hal Roach and signed contracts with Warner Bros. and CBS Television. In addition to films such as “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” Klatzkin composed the themes and conducted the orchestras for popular television series including “Gunsmoke,” “The Fugitive,” “Have Gun Will Travel,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “Perry Mason,” “The Untouchables” and “Rawhide.” On Wednesday in Newport Beach of congestive heart failure.
