A benefit concert by the Orange County Youth Celebration of Music, a student group, raised $2,000 Sunday for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Winners of the 1992 Newport Beach Salute to the Arts Juried Exhibition have been announced. The first place award of $800 went to Mark Bathen of Anaheim Hills for his oil painting “Backyard Pond”; second prize ($400) went to Wally Siegel of Newport Beach for an acrylic, “Red Passage,” and third prize ($200) went to Maria Elena Bicer of Irvine for her oil “School in Buenos Aires.” The poster award went to Debra Huse of Newport Beach for her pastel, “On Guard,” which will be used to promote next year’s Salute to the Arts. Bathen’s first-place work becomes the property of the City of Newport Beach and, after display at City Hall, will join the Newport Harbor Art Museum’s permanent collection. The works were judged by Phyllis Lutjeans, curator of UCI’s Fine Arts Gallery.
