Ventura officials have decided to award more than $606,000 in community development funds to help some of the city’s social service agencies provide more housing and services to homeless and low income people.
The City Council voted 7 to 0 Monday night to give $579,000 to help Interface, Christopher House foundation and Turning Point Foundation provide shelter for the disadvantaged or chronically ill. Nearly $27,000 will go toward upgrading services for the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura and the Coalition Against Household Violence, the council decided.
After extensive review, city officials decided to set aside the bulk of the money for Turning Point Foundation and the Christopher House foundation, an organization to care for people sick with AIDS.
Christopher House foundation will receive $260,000 to buy and renovate a house in downtown Ventura for people with AIDS, and Turning Point Foundation will be given $260,000 to acquire and renovate a home for the mentally disabled.
