LOS ANGELES : Mayor Lifts Restrictions on Sale of Ammunition, Gas

Share

Recognizing the return of calm to the streets of Los Angeles, Mayor Tom Bradley has lifted an emergency order imposed during the riots that banned the sale of ammunition and containers of gasoline.

The mayor, however, left in place a state-of-emergency declaration that permits him to quickly reimpose curfews and other controls in the event of further unrest.

“The rescinding of these two emergency provisions expresses my faith in our residents to join in the powerful movement of renewal and rebirth of this fantastic city,” Bradley said in a prepared statement.

The mayor imposed the bans on April 30, just hours after looting, arson and violence swept across much of the city. The order prohibited all ammunition sales for guns and rifles. Service stations were prohibited from pumping gas into containers, such as gasoline cans.
