A public-awareness campaign aimed at encouraging American women to get involved in politics is due next week from Lifetime Television.

“It’s the biggest public affairs campaign we’ve ever launched,” says John Solomon of Lifetime. It will combine on-air programming for the network’s 54 million households with local outreach programs and national magazine projects. “The point is to get our women viewers involved--to see they can make a difference,” says Solomon.

The campaign, entitled “Women and Politics: A Lifetime Challenge,” will include:

* A series of 30-second TV spots profiling women at all elective levels discussing their campaign experience and ending with a “call to action.”

* Collaboration with national women’s magazines, including Family Circle and McCall’s, for surveys on women and politics.

* Coordination with the National Women’s Political Caucus and League of Women Voters for voter registration drives and local panels, debates and forums on women and politics.
