Tibet Independence Demonstrations Told

BEIJING —
Tibetan monks and nuns have staged a series of small pro-independence demonstrations in Lhasa this month, and many were believed arrested, travelers from Tibet said Thursday.
Word of the demonstrations came one day after London-based Amnesty International issued a report accusing Chinese authorities of torturing political prisoners in Tibet. China’s ambassador in Britain, Ma Yuzhen, said the report was distorted and unfair.
