Westchester : Loyola Professor Honored
Loyola Marymount University professor Warren Sherlock has won the Shiras Institute/Mildred & Albert Panowski Playwriting Award.
Sherlock’s play, “The Black Pope,” was honored by Northern Michigan University.
Chosen from 400 entries, the play deals with the 16th-Century heresy trial of St. Ignatius of Loyola by the Inquisition. The Westchester campus is named for St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Spanish soldier and cleric who founded the Society of Jesus.
Sherlock’s play will be produced on the Northern Michigan campus during the school’s 1992-1993 theater season. He will act as artist-in-residence during the production and will also receive $2,000.
