SIMI VALLEY : Expo to Showcase Activities for Youth

Simi Valley junior high and high school students will be able to attend an afternoon party today that is designed to showcase activities available to youth in the city.
Billed as the city’s first Teen Expo, the event will feature three rock ‘n’ roll bands, a rap group, and games designed for teen-agers, said Dennis Anderson, recreation supervisor for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
The activities will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at Ranch Simi Community Park at 1765 Royal Ave.
In addition to the park district, sponsors of the event include the local Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA and local businesses.
The park district is sometimes criticized for not offering enough activities for teen-agers, Anderson said.
“We’re getting close to summer,” he said, so the park district and other sponsors wanted “to show the teens of Simi Valley what might be available to them.”
In addition to the music and games, the event will also have food booths and several drawings offering prizes donated by local businesses, such as free dinners or dance lessons.
