Auto Makers May Form Emissions Consortium: The Big Three U.S. auto makers say they “hope to announce” Monday a new joint effort to develop technology that would reduce vehicle emissions. Officials at Detroit’s auto makers, however, wouldn’t confirm reports in Automotive News, a trade publication, that they plan to announce a new “breakthrough” low-emissions consortium. The low-emissions consortium would represent the eighth Big Three consortium since the first was formed in 1988. The joint efforts are designed to trim research and development costs.
