Robert B. Heck; Office Supply Store Owner

Robert B. Heck, owner of Heck Office Supplies in Glendale, has died at a Glendale hospital. He was 84.

A longtime Glendale resident, Heck died Saturday of lung cancer, said his daughter, Connie Serrano of Burbank.

Born in Seattle, Heck served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge, he went to Toledo, Ohio, where he worked for a uniform cleaning service and as a taxi driver. In 1952, he came to California as general manager at the Glendale office supply store that his father, M. R. Heck, opened in 1940. Heck, who became owner of the store when his father died in 1984, continued to work six days a week until mid-April.

Heck was a longtime member of the Elks Club in Burbank.

In addition to his daughter, Heck is survived by a son, Rob Heck of La Crescenta; brothers Howard Heck of Toledo and Paul Heck of Ashland, Ore., and five grandchildren. His wife, Sophie C. Heck, died in 1990.

Visitation is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Valley Funeral Home, 2121 W. Burbank Blvd., Burbank, which is handling the arrangements.

A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills.

Donations can be made in Heck’s name to the American Cancer Society.
