WOODLAND HILLS : Homeowners Sue to Block Office Towers

The Woodland Hills Homeowners Organization has sued to stop construction of three office towers, saying Los Angeles officials withheld information about the project’s effect on surrounding neighborhoods.

The suit, filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, aims to stop the Gateway Center project, which consists of two 13-story towers and a 10-story building proposed for the northeast corner of Ventura and Topanga Canyon boulevards.

“It would essentially destroy the community,” said Robert Gross, president of the homeowners group. “We had to find some way of getting some relief through the courts to get this turned around and have it scaled down.”

According to the suit, the project would block the views of homeowners in the area and would increase traffic, trash and sewage.

The suit alleges that planning officials withheld information about whether the city would need to seize property in order to widen streets to accommodate the traffic generated by the project.

The city attorney’s office could not be reached for comment.
