VENTURA : Cleanup Day May Bring Record Haul

Share

Organizers are predicting Ventura residents will collect a record amount of rubbish today during the city’s annual Community Cleanup Day.

Residents are invited to haul trash and yard waste to one of three drop-off locations in the city for free disposal, said Bill Lykins of the Ventura recycling office.

Each site will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Trash bins that can hold 40 cubic yards of material each will be stationed at Ventura High School, Buena High School and at Ecology Control, a company located at 2055 N. Ventura Ave.

Last year, city residents hauled enough refuse to the drop-off sites to fill 100 of the industrial-sized dumpsters, said Myron Harrison of E. J. Harrison, the city’s trash hauler.

But Harrison said he expects more trash to be collected this year because substantial winter rains led to the growth of more brush.

Residents are asked to limit the amount of trash they bring by to the amount that would fill a pickup truck.

Brush and other yard waste will be hauled to a wood recycler for disposal, while other recyclables will be taken to appropriate recycling centers, Lykins said.

The cleanup day is co-sponsored by the city of Ventura, Ventura Chamber of Commerce, E. J. Harrison and the Ventura Regional Sanitation District.
