Butch Reynolds found a place to run Saturday and put up a qualifying time for the U.S. Olympic trials.

Even with the time, the suspended 400-meter world record-holder will need another court order to clear the way for him to run in the trials, which begin in two weeks in New Orleans.

Reynolds, who is fighting a two-year drug suspension, ran the 400 meters in 44.98 seconds to win the event at San Francisco’s Kezar Stadium.

Reynolds’ time was well below the automatic qualifying standard of 45.49 seconds. His world record is 43.29.

“I’m ready. I was definitely ready to run,” Reynolds said. “But this is just the end of a beginning. There’s still another court battle.”
