Butch Reynolds, the world record-holder at 400 meters, won another legal victory in his fight to participate in the Olympics when a federal judge in Columbus, Ohio, extended for 10 days an order allowing Reynolds to compete at track meets.

The extension was granted by U.S. District Judge Joseph Kinneary, who on June 18 will consider whether to issue a preliminary injunction that would allow Reynolds to compete in the Olympic trials. The trials will begin June 19 in New Orleans.

The 1988 Olympic silver medalist has been banned from competition since 1990 because of a positive test for an anabolic steroid. The International Amateur Athletic Federation, the world governing body for track and field, rejected his appeal May 11.
