Mike McGee, 37, has been appointed director of the Cal State Fullerton Art Gallery, effective Aug. 24, replacing interim director Daniel Sterns. The position also includes a tenure-track appointment in the university’s art department, where McGee will teach exhibition design. Gallery director Dextra Frankel resigned last September after 24 years in the position.

McGee, who earned his bachelor of art degree in Studio Art at CSUF in 1978, holds a master’s degree in art from UC Irvine. His museum experience includes positions as programs coordinator at the Laguna Art Museum (1986-87) and senior curator at the now-defunct Modern Museum of Art in Santa Ana (1987-88).

In recent years, McGee has taught art history part time at several local colleges: Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana (where he has been faculty adviser for the Art Forum lecture series during the past year), Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, (where he also served as gallery director from January, 1989, to June, 1991), Fullerton College, Irvine Valley College, Saddleback College in Mission Viejo and Cal State Fullerton.
