Policy on Iraq Before the War

In response to “The U.S. Tilt to Iraq Was Never a Secret,” Column Left, June 1:

Alexander Cockburn’s column once again shows that, for him, hatred of Israel is all-important. For him the fact that further information is now becoming public concerning the Bush Administration’s kowtowing to Saddam Hussein up to one month or so before he invaded Kuwait--that is just a “dog-eared saga.” The fact is that most of this information has up to now been hidden from the American people, and there is more that is still hidden under the veil of “national security.”

He repeats the charges that Israel sold U.S. technology to China, although that has been authoritatively refuted by the Bush Administration, which lately has not been exactly pro-Israel.

Cockburn has been treated poorly by history. For him 1967 went all the wrong way. He would have been much happier if Nasser had been able to execute his boast that he would drive Israel into the sea.
