PALMDALE : Water Tank Move Gains Support

Share

Los Angeles County supervisors agreed Tuesday that moving a large water pumping and storage system serving part of Palmdale to a less developed area near the Antelope Valley Freeway would not adversely affect the environment.

As commercial uses have increased in the area of the water system--which is near the new Antelope Valley Mall--land for its needed expansion has become scarce and expensive. In addition, county public works officials reported that they have trouble turning in to the site at times because of traffic.

The tank is to be moved from Avenue P and 10th Street West to land near the intersection of the freeway and 10th Street West. Cost of the move will be paid by owners of the commercial properties that now surround the county water tank.

The board concluded Tuesday that the project would have no affect on wildlife resources, the first step in completing the move.
