SAN DIEGO : Suspect Denies Guilt in Boy’s Slaying
- Share via
An unemployed man accused of fatally shooting an 11-year-old pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of murder, robbery and burglary.
Steven Bell, 26, had lived for two weeks at the Logan Heights house with the victim and the victim’s mother. Johnny Joseph Anderson died from multiple stab wounds after being attacked Thursday.
Bell turned himself in to a San Diego police officer near Balboa Park after reporting to the officer that he was the suspect in the killing.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Sickels said he is considering filing special circumstance allegations against Bell. A special circumstance, such as committing a murder during the course of a robbery, could make Bell eligible for the death penalty.
Municipal Judge Jay M. Bloom set a preliminary hearing for July 17.
