La Puente : Senior Housing Approved
A proposal to build a 41-unit senior housing complex narrowly won tentative approval from the City Council Tuesday.
The council voted 3 to 2, with Charles Storing and Manuel Garcia dissenting, to support the plan for a privately developed three-story complex in the 700 block of Glendora Avenue.
Before the vote, Storing said he would not support the project unless the developer, Bhagabhai Patel, obtained federal rent subsidies for low-income senior citizens and agreed to favor La Puente residents for tenancy.
However, City Atty. Carol Lynch advised the council that both of Storing’s proposed conditions were probably illegal. She added that the city would have to rewrite its rent statutes before attempting such actions.
A final vote is scheduled for the council’s June 23 meeting.
