La Mirada : 518,350 Pounds Collected in 1st Year of Recycling Effort

During the first year of the La Mirada Recycles program, 518,350 pounds of materials were collected for recycling, city officials said.
Newspapers, mixed paper, glass, plastic and aluminum were collected at 11 drop-off locations. Foster Road Elementary School was the top location, with 120,000 pounds. The school has a weekly student recycling drive in conjunction with its environmental sciences program.
Foster Road, the city’s Kling Center and Gardenhill Elementary School combined accounted for more than 50% of the recyclables collected. Kling collected 97,000 pounds and Gardenhill 66,000. Bins for La Mirada residents participating in recycling are located at city facilities, parks and schools.
